Laryngitis is swelling and irritation (inflammation) of the voice box (larynx). The problem is most often associated with hoarseness or loss of voice. The cause is usually that your vocal cords have become inflamed or infected, therefore, swelling occurs, blocking your airway.
Allergies, bacterial infections, bronchitis, GERD, Injury (yelling or singing too much) and chemical exposure are irritants for Laryngitis.
